Investing In Our Food Future

A day of workshops and discussion about food literacy, social enterprise, and how to engage youth in building a sustainable food community.

Join the Orillia Food Council and explore opportunities to inspire and engage our youth. Erin Beagle, Executive Director of Roots To Harvest in Thunder Bay, leads workshops focusing on the successes and challenges experienced in creating sustainable urban farming education programs for young people. An evening panel discussion featuring educators, food security champions, municipal representatives and youth advocates invites the public to discuss a vision for local youth engagement in Simcoe County's food future. 

Workshop Itinerary:

9:00 am - Welcome

9:30 am - 12:30 pm: Sowing the Seeds of Engagement: Connecting Youth to Their Community Through Food-Growing Education

12:30 pm - 1:30pm: Optional seasonal lunch.

1:30 pm - 4:30 pm: Reaping the Benefits: Tying Urban Farm-Skills Programs to Social Enterprise 

Evening Discussion Panel: 

7 pm - 9 pm: A meaningful conversation on how to practically implement successful farm-based education programs in Simcoe County.

Local, seasonal lunch option available.


General - Whole Day with Lunch: $20, 1/2 Day no Lunch: $10
